Gov. Deal Names Metcam, Inc. of Forsyth County, 2018 Small Manufacturer of the Year

Local and Conscientious

Forsyth County Georgia’s manufacturing companies are known for their excellence in lasting commitment to reduce waste and increase awareness of the value of sustainability along with working with the local community and educators  around the benefits of lean manufacturing.

We here at the Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce are pleased that we have some of the most recognized manufacturing companies in the state of Georgia right here in our community.

Small Manufacturer of the Year

Recently, Governor Deal named Metcam as the 2018 Small Manufacturer of the Year at the annual Governor’s Awards Luncheon. Out of 159 counties in Georgia, Metcam, who sits in our backyard, received the award for Small Manufacturer of the Year. In a recent press release, Bruce Hagenau, President of Metcam and former Chamber Chairman said, “I am honored to be able to accept this award today on behalf of Metcam.”

Metcam

Metcam, a fabricator of sheet metal components and assemblies for OEMs, has been a long-time member of the Chamber of Commerce and a champion of The Manufacturing Society of Forsyth County. The Manufacturing Society is an extension of the Chamber that works closely with Forsyth County Schools, the Univeristy of North Georgia and Lanier Technical College. The society reinforces the creation of new and innovative approaches to give students real-world manufacturing experiences.

Local resources have also been a contributor to Metcam’s success. They have forged a partnership with Georgia Quick Start and Lanier Technical College.

“[These organizations] have provided over three thousand man hours of training to our staff in areas from print reading to communications to leadership to lean manufacturing,” commented Hagenau.

Manufacturing in Georgia

Manufacturing is once again a growing and a vital part of our national and regional economy. According to the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), manufacturing output has increased 18%. Manufacturers contributed a record $2 trillion to our economy. According to NAM reports, 82% of manufacturers have jobs going unfilled because they can’t find people due to this skills gap.

The Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce believes that manufacturing companies should consider locating their companies in Forsyth County. We are listed as number one in many awesome categories, including:

In addition, the Manufacturing Society of Forsyth County works closely with Forsyth County Schools, the University of North Georgia and Lanier Technical College, reinforcing the creation of new and innovative approaches to give students real-world manufacturing experiences.
