What factors came together to name Forsyth County the #1 Healthiest County in all of GA for six years running? According to the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute, Forsyth County improved Forsyth communities’ quality of life using its resources:
The County Health Rankings & Roadmaps program compares the health of nearly all counties in the United States to others within its state. Also, it supports coalitions tackling the social, economic and environmental factors that influence health.
The annual Rankings provide a revealing snapshot of how health is influenced by where we live, learn, work and play. For instance, the Rankings offer a starting point for change. Likewise, the Roadmaps provide guidance and tools to understand the data and strategies that communities can use to move from education to action. (Here’s a link to this year’s rankings).
The rankings measures how long people live and the way healthy people feel while alive. Thus, it is easy to conclude why Forsyth County continues to rank #1.
First, we have a community of healthcare partners like Northside Hospital Forsyth and their ever-expanding campus and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta’s urgent care center. Then, we also hava plethora of award-winning Parks & Recreation facilities to keep our community active and fit! Boating on Lake Lanier’s sparkling water and watching a sunset is an experience of a lifetime! And finally, the breathtaking views of Sawnee Mountain leaves you speechless. You can actually see the summit of the Blue Ridge Mountain Range.
In addition, Forsyth Parks & Recreation is nationally recognized for its award-winning parks. Our numerous outdoor recreation options include Lake Lanier, Sawnee Mountain and the Big Creek Greenway (Forsyth County’s trail system). They caught the attention of the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA) and the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA). We were awarded a very prestigious accreditation. Notably, we are one of only 165 departments nationally to receive this prestigious accreditation.
