Top Things To Do in Forsyth County This Summer

Regardless of your age, the summer months are always full of fun and adventure. Weekends, evenings and weekdays for our students are spent outside with family and friends.

This is true in Forsyth County. If you live in Forsyth County or are simply visiting for a few days, you can take advantage of a whole range of summer activities.

Below are some of the top things that to do in Forsyth County this summer. The list below isn’t ranked in order of preference. Rather, it is simply a collection of fun activities to during the hot summer months in Forsyth County.

Check Out Lake Lanier

Lake Lanier is a terrific place to have fun during the summer. Located in the eastern half of Forsyth County, Lake Lanier has been called “Georgia’s Great Lake.” There’s something for everyone at Lake Lanier. To start, you can take advantage of the numerous miles of beaches along the lake, which are especially fun on a bright sunny day. If you enjoy sailing, fishing, or simply zipping across the waves, you will find numerous opportunities at Lake Lanier. Hikers and bikers can also take advantage of the many trails near the lake. Best of all, if you are an adventurer, you can even take a canopy and zip line tour of North Georgia.

If you would rather relax than be suspended 30 feet off of the ground, there is great shopping and dining around Lake Lanier. Live music, nightlife, and even pub crawls are all possible around Lake Lanier. Therefore, regardless of your interests, you will absolutely want to check out Lake Lanier before summer ends.

Visit Forsyth County’s Parks and Playgrounds

Beyond Lake Lanier, Forsyth County has a wide range of parks and playgrounds that you and your family can visit. You can find a complete list here. For Forsyth’s dog-lovers, Windermere Park features a dog park. Old Atlanta Park has a variety of walking trails and even a spray pad enjoyed by children of all ages. Mary Alice Park has a beach and boat ramps. If you are simply looking for a nice, easy stroll in the beautiful outdoors, Forsyth County has plenty of options.

Shop at Outdoor Farmers’ Markets

It is easy to fall into the routine of simply making a run to the grocery store for any dry good needs. Instead, we encourage you to break this routine and visit some of Forsyth County’s popular farmers’ markets.

To view a list of farmers’ markets in Forsyth County this summer, please click here. You will see that the hours vary for some of these farmers’ markets. For example, the Vickery Village Farmers’ Market is only open on Thursdays from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. The Cumming Farmers’ Market, on the other hand, is open on Saturdays and Wednesdays from 6:30 am to 10:30 am. Before you go, you will want to ensure that your chosen farmers’ market is open. Upon arriving,  you will discover an eclectic mix of food, drink, and other items that you can purchase.

Watch Movies in the Park

Who doesn’t like watching a movie under the stars? There’s something special about joining your friends and family and enjoying a film on a refreshing summer night. You can do just that at The Chill Hill in Vickery Village. Through the end of July, you can attend Movies in the Park. The remaining movies on the schedule include Captain Marvel (July 9) and How to Train Your Dragon 2 (July 23). The movies start at around sundown, which is approximately 8:40 pm to 8:55 pm.

Attend Forsyth County’s Special Summer Events

Finally, we recommend that you check out some special events occurring in Forsyth County this summer. While they may require a little more planning than other items on this list, these special events may turn out to be some of your favorite memories from this summer.

For example, if you love live music, you may want to attend the Summer Concerts Series to enjoy live music from some of the region’s best musicians. Fridays at the Fairgrounds (July 19, and August 16) are always fun, as you can enjoy food trucks, classic cars, and live music. You and your friends can even check out the Cumming Music Festival at Cumming Fairgrounds.

Whatever your interests, you will likely find a special event that suits you. Finally, if you don’t have any specific Fourth of July plans, you can always attend the Fourth of July celebration in downtown Cumming. Along with fireworks, you can view a steam engine parade, pie and hot do eating contests and a concert presented by 37 Main – A Rock Cafe.
